The Friends present monthly lectures at Mia with speakers who are artists, historians, museum professionals, professors, and community activists - all with something fascinating and thought-provoking to say. Here are the next two lectures in the lineup:
A Conversation with Tim Yip
Sunday, March 5 at 2 PM - Pillsbury Auditorium
Join Tim Yip, multi-disciplinary artist, director and designer of the immersive exhibition Eternal Offerings: Chinese Ritual Bronzes and Liu Yang, Mia’s Chair of Asian art and Curator of Chinese Art for a conversation moderated by Matthew Welch, Mia’s Deputy Director and Chief Curator.
Although tickets for the auditorium are sold out, overflow seating will be available in the Wells Fargo Community Room. The talk will be followed by a light reception in the Fountain Court.
Archaeological Looting from Antiquity to the 21st Century with Dr. Vanessa Rousseau
Thursday, April 13 at 11 AM - Pillsbury Auditorium
Come along with art historian and archaeologist Vanessa Rousseau as she explores the long history of the looting and destruction of art, archaeology and cultural property from ancient times to the present. Contemporary assaults on cultural heritage in Ukraine and the Middle East show both mercenary and ideological motivations that have been a tactic of warfare since antiquity. She will put this current problem into historical perspective and highlight potential solutions as we consider how best to protect our shared cultural heritage.
Reserve your free ticket at artsmia.org after March 17
