Art in Bloom, April 2019 • Presented by the Friends of the Institute Mia volunteers show visitors and give tours of the floral arrangements, installations and interpretations that appear throughout the Mia galleries and buildings
We all support Mia by giving thoughtful, well-crafted tours to visitors of all ages. Here’s another way you can be engaged at Mia in a substantial fashion: Please consider serving on the Friends of the Institute Board of Directors. The Friends board governs and guides the Friends organization, and board members rotate annually. We have opportunities for the upcoming 2024-2025 fiscal year, which begins on July 1.
The Friends organization supports the museum in a variety of significant ways, including free public lectures and school bus transportation for student groups to visit Mia. Serving on the board is rewarding (and fun!) as we consider and take action on issues surrounding Art in Bloom (our major fundraiser), the school bus fund, the lecture series, periodic Art & Architecture trips, and the monthly Friends Book Club. Here are the nuts and bolts: The board meets monthly at 10 a.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month, and there are no meetings in June, August, and December. Board meetings usually last from 60 to 90 minutes, with an optional 30-minute coffee and social time prior to each meeting.
